Edmond

Town in Oklahoma County, central Oklahoma; population (1990) 52,300. It is located 21 km/13 mi north of the centre of Oklahoma City. On the edge of the West Edmond Field, one of the largest oil and natural gas deposits in the world, it is a residential suburb, petroleum production and trade centre, agricultural and commercial hub, and manufacturer of building products and oilfield equipment. It is home to Central State University (1890).
