Edmonds

Town in Snohomish County, west-central Washington; population (2000) 39,500. It is situated on Puget Sound, 24 km/15 mi north of Seattle. A growing residential suburb founded in 1890, it also has an oil refinery and fruit processing plants. Based here is a ferry to Kingston, on the Kitsap Peninsula, across Puget Sound. Its beaches, marina, and fishing pier make the city popular with tourists. Edmonds Underwater Park, located under town centre waterfront docks, is a well-known scuba diving site. The town is home to Edmonds Community College (1967).
