Each book contains a historical and cultural overview, descriptions of neighboring peoples (Phoenicians, Philistines, Moabites, Edomites, etc. He doesn't elaborate, but it seems clear that this "remembering" is equivalent to vengeance and destruction: for God to "remember" the Edomites is for him to cast their actions back on their own heads. 23:3-8 draws some rather sharp distinctions between Moabites and Ammonites as opposed to Edomites and Egyptians. |
