Edred (died 955)

Anglo-Saxon King of the English from 946, the youngest son of Edward the Elder. His reign was largely spent battling for Northumbria, which had sworn allegiance to him in 947 but had transferred its loyalty to Eric Bloodaxe of Norway. Eric was killed in battle in 954, and Edred finally acquired Northumbria.
