Eeckhout, Gerbrandt van den

    0.06 sec.

Eeckhout, Gerbrandt van den (1621–1674)

Dutch painter. One of Rembrandt's later pupils and most consistent followers, he painted religious subjects, genre scenes, and portraits. Rich colour and rhetorical use of gesture characterize his biblical subjects, among which are Tobit (Herzog-Anton-Ulrich Museum, Brunswick, Germany).

Other works include The Woman Taken in Adultery (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam), Simeon in the Temple (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden), and Christ among the Doctors (Alte Pinakothek, Munich). His genre paintings recall Gerard Terborch.
