Effelsberg

Site, near Bonn, Germany, of the 100-m/328-ft radio dish of the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, opened in 1971. It was the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope until the building of the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) at Green Bank, West Virginia, USA.

and the Effelsberg Radio Telescope of the Max Planck Institute for Radioastronomy (MPIfR) in Germany to determine that a galaxy dubbed UGC 3789 is 160 million light-years from Earth.
Over the past year, tests have been been carried out using three facilities, said Klinkrad -- a radar at Wachtberg, in northwestern Germany; a 100-metre radiotelescope at Effelsberg, western Germany; and a network of radar stations, called Eiscat, in Finland, Norway and Sweden.
De Witt completed the analysis of the single dish data from Greenbank and combined this with the Effelsberg 100m data to derive some detection statistics.
