El Campo

Town in Wharton County, southeast Texas; population (1990) 10,500. It is located 103 km/64 mi southwest of Houston. Founded in 1884, it was a cattle centre, and now processes and markets rice, pecans, cotton, oil, and sulfur. El Campo also produces aluminum, plastic, and styrofoam products.
