El Cerrito

Town in Contra Costa County, north-central California; population (1990) 22,900. It is situated on San Francisco Bay, 6 km/4 mi northeast of Berkeley, on the north of El Cerrito Creek, the boundary between Contra Costa and Alameda counties. The Berkeley Hills rise to the east, and Richmond is to the north. El Cerrito is essentially a residential suburb.
