El Guerrouj, Hicham (1974– )

Moroccan runner. He was the world 1,500-metre champion who in 2004 became the first man for 80 years to win a 1,500-metre and 5,000-metre Olympic double. In 1998 he set a new world record time of 3 minutes 26 seconds for the 1,500 metres, and has also set world records at the mile and 2,000 metres. In 2003 he won his fourth consecutive gold medal at the World Championships in Paris. He has set indoor world records in both the 1,500 metres and the mile.
