Elanus

Genus of Falconidae, order Falconiformes, closely related to the kites. It is found in all the continents. E. caerulus, the black-winged kite, is common to Africa and Asia, and a few nest in Europe. E. scriptus belongs to Australia. All are birds of prey and eat a variety of animal food.
