Elateia

Elateia

Largest town in the ancient region of Phocis, central Greece. There was a temple of Asclepius, the god of healing, and another dedicated to Athena Cranea. The town was captured by Philip II of Macedon in 339 BC.

Elateia was situated near the River Cephissus and not far from one of the chief passes leading from Thessaly to Boeotia. The temple to Athena Cranea was excavated 1883.
