Elbasan

Town in Albania, capital of Elbasan district, on the right bank of the River Shkumbi; population (2001) 87,800. It is the centre of a fertile agricultural region and its industries include olive- oil processing, soapmaking, and timber milling. It is a railway terminus. There is an oil refinery at Cerrik, to the southwest.
