Eleanor of Provence (c.1221–1291)

Queen of England 1236–72, wife of Henry III. After his death, she became a nun in 1276 and died in obscurity.

Eleanor was the daughter of Raymond Berenger IV, Count of Provence. At the English court, her influence is believed to have been behind Henry's favouring of foreign advisors. She died at Amesbury, Wiltshire in 1291.
