electric fieldIn physics, a region in which a particle possessing electric charge experiences a force owing to the presence of another electric charge. The strength of an electric field, E, is measured in volts per metre (V m−1). It is a type of electromagnetic field. An electric field is formed between two metal plates that are parallel to each other and connected to a voltage supply. An electron beam moving through these plates will be deflected slightly towards the positive plate. How to thank TFD for its existence? Taub's team is making progress on several fronts, including smart materials--those that change shape or stiffness based upon changes in heat, magnetic or electrical field levels--with potential for use in vehicle structural parts. Because the light particles typically rise higher and faster than heavier ones, the separation of charges creates an electrical field that can measure more than 80 kilovolts per meter (kV/m). His mark extends beyond the electrical field into all areas of trade and secondary education. |
