With the availability of the first commercially produced electron microprobe instruments in the early 1960s, x-ray microanalysis became a significant analytical technique in the Analytical Chemistry Division at NIST (then called the National Bureau of Standards). The cake is examined for inclusions by metallographic and constitutional analysis that may include optical, electron microprobe and energy dispersive techniques. |
