interior design

The design, decoration, and furnishing of the inside of a building. In recent times the trend has been towards a less ornate and more functional style, fostered by the interaction of architects and designers working in teams, whether to remodel existing interiors, for example Misha Black and Hugh Casson, or in new buildings, for example Gio Ponti's Pirelli building in Milan, Oscar Niemeyer's capital city of Brasília, and the many works of Le Corbusier, Eero Saarinen, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. International-style furniture – light, geometric, simple, and functional – was designed, often by architects, to complement modern architecture.
