Elizabethtown

Town and administrative headquarters of Hardin County, central Kentucky; population (1990) 18,200. It is located 77 km/48 mi south-southwest of Louisville. Settled in 1780, it developed as a trading centre for burley tobacco and other crops. It now makes magnets, processed foods, bottled drinks, and audio products.

Elizabethtown

Town and administrative headquarters of Lancaster County, southeast Pennsylvania; population (1990) 10,000. It is located 29 km/18 mi northwest of Lancaster. It is home to Elizabethtown College (1899) and the Masonic Homes, a retirement community that houses a noted arboretum.
