Elkins

Town and administrative headquarters of Randolph County, northeast West Virginia; population (2000) 7,000. It is situated on the Tygart River, 56 km/35 mi southeast of Clarksburg. It is the trade centre for a lumbering, agricultural, and coal mining area, and produces various light manufactures. It is home to Davis and Elkins College (1904), and is headquarters for the Monongahela National Forest.
