Elliot, Walter Hackett Robert (1842–1928)

US Catholic priest and writer. A lawyer and Civil War veteran, he was inspired by a sermon of Father Isaac Hecker to become a Paulist priest. His books included an 1891 biography of Hecker.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan. His biography of Hecker caused a furore in France and led to papal condemnation of modernism.
