Ellis, David (1933- )

English composer. He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and worked as an administrator with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from 1964. He was Head of Music for BBC North 1978-86, and artistic director of the Northern Chamber Orchestra from 1986.

Sinfonietta (1953), violin concerto, piano concerto (1962), Fanfares and Cadenzas for orchestra (1968), February Music for cello and chamber orchestra (1977), Circles (1979); Suite franglaise for strings (1987).

Sequentia I-V for soloists, chorus, and orchestra (1962-75).

Chamber

string trio (1954), wind quintet (1956); piano sonata (1956); string quartet (1980).
