Ellison, Mervyn Archdall (1909–1963)

Irish astronomer. He was well known for his observations of solar flares. He worked at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, 1947–58, and from 1958 was director of Dunsink Observatory, Dublin.

He was born in Fethard on Sea, County Wexford, and educated at Armagh Royal School and Trinity College, Dublin. Some of his extensive work on solar activity is contained in his book The Sun and its Influence 1968.
