Elmen, Gustav Waldene (1876-1957)

Swedish-born US electrical engineer and metallurgist. He discovered the permalloy high magnetic permeability alloys; his new permalloys (iron-nickel and iron-cobalt alloys) revolutionized telephone communications. He founded and directed the US Naval Ordnance Laboratory at Washington, DC. Elmen was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He emigrated to the USA in 1893 and became a citizen in 1918.
