Elssler, Fanny (1810–1884)

Viennese ballerina. Her dancing was impassioned and brilliant, and she was an excellent mime. She enjoyed success in Paris, France, and London, England, but the peak of her career came with her triumphant tour of the USA, which she was the first great dancer to visit (1840–42).
