Elster

Name of two rivers in Germany. The Weisse Elster (White Elster) rises in the Czech Republic and, after a few kilometres, enters Germany to flow through Plauen, Gera, and Leipzig; length 193 km/121 mi. It joins the River Saale south of Halle.

The Schwarze Elster (Black Elster) rises in Saxony northeast of Dresden and flows 188 km/117 mi in a northwesterly direction to join the Elbe near Wittenberg.
