Elyria

City and administrative headquarters of Lorain County, north Ohio, on the Black River, 38 km/24 mi west of Cleveland; population (1992) 57,300. It is the centre of an agricultural region; industries include tools, electric motors, chromium hardware, chemicals, and motor-vehicle parts.

Elyria was first settled in 1817 and incorporated as a city in 1892. Nearby Cascade Park is noted for its caves, waterfalls, and rock formations.
