Emerson, Roy Stanley (1936– )

Australian tennis player who won a record 12 men's Grand Slam singles titles 1961–67, which was surpassed by Pete Sampras in 2000. A right-handed player, renowned for his speed around the court, Emerson also won 16 Grand Slam men's doubles titles, and was a member of the Australian team that won the Davis Cup eight times between 1959 and 1967.
