Nolde, Emil (1867–1956)German expressionist painter and graphic artist. Nolde studied in Paris and Dachau, joined the group of artists known as die Brücke 1906–07, and visited Polynesia in 1913; he then became almost a recluse in northeastern Germany. He painted biblical subjects marked by a barbaric intensity of colour, still lifes, and studies of the landscape of his native region on the German–Danish border. His work includes brilliant watercolours. How to thank TFD for its existence?
