| Spectral tables for four cosmically abundant elements (Ne, Mg, Si, and S) in the wavelength region of interest for the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, which is roughly 2 nm to 17 nm, have been critically compiled with partial support from the Chandra Emission Line Project. By measuring the width of the magnesium-ion emission line, Chris Willott of the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics in Victoria, Canada, and his colleagues deduced the disk's velocity, enabling them to calculate the black hole's mass. It is well recognized that the peak height of an x-ray emission line measured with a wavelength dispersive spectrometer (WDS) is a sufficient approximation for quantitative microanalysis on a routine basis using an Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA). |
