Emmons, S(amuel) F(ranklin) (1841–1911)

US geologist. He served the US geological exploration of the 40th parallel, then became a geologist for the newly created US Geological Survey. He made major contributions to studies of mining and the origin of ore deposits.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
