Emo Court

Country house at Emo, County Laois, Republic of Ireland, with a dome and portico designed by James Gandon for the 1st Earl of Portarlington about 1790. The house was not finished when the Earl was killed in the Rebellion of 1798. Work continued in the 1830s, when the architect was Lewis Vulliamy. The house is known for its Coade-stone capitals and the great rotunda with its copper dome, which was finished about 1860. It was sympathetically restored in the late 20th century and is lavishly furnished.
