enclave

Portion of a state within the boundaries of another. To the proprietor state the enclave is known as its exclave. Examples of enclaves are: the former Cabinda enclave of Angola; East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), formerly part of the Republic of Pakistan; East Prussia (now part of Poland), which, between 1919 and 1939, was part of Germany; and Nagorno-Karabakh, a predominantly Armenian region within Azerbaijan, which is disputed by the two nations.
