terminal moraine

Linear, slightly curved ridge of rocky debris deposited at the front end, or snout, of a glacier. It represents the furthest point of advance of a glacier, being formed when deposited material (till), which was pushed ahead of the snout as it advanced, became left behind as the glacier retreated.

Flint noted Gilbert's pioneer work in mapping end moraines, followed in 1877 by the work of Chamberlin (for references and discussion see Alden, 1929).
The importance of these processes in the Saginaw Lobe region is supported by the presence of mixed stratified drift in chaotic form and the lack of uniform ground and end moraines (Gray 1989).
