Enfantin, Barthelemy Prosper

    0.02 sec.

Enfantin, Barthelemy Prosper (1796–1864)

French journalist and socialist. One of the chief founders of the Saint-Simon school. From 1826–30 he was associated with Saint-Amand Bazard in carrying on Claude Saint-Simon's work, but they eventually disagreed on the question of marriage, Enfantin being an advocate of free love, which led to his prosecution in 1832. He was imprisoned for a year, and on his release became editor of the journal Le Crédit Public. His collected works were published in Œuvres de Saint-Simon et d'Enfantin (1865–78).
