Enfield, Harry

    0.01 sec.

Enfield, Harry (1961– )

English comedian and writer. He began his career providing the voices for puppets on the 1980s satirical television show Spitting Image. This was followed by slots on the weekend entertainment shows Saturday Live and Friday Night Live, and then his own television shows, in which he teamed up with fellow comics Kathie Burke and Paul Whitehouse. In 1992 Enfield co-starred in the first season of the sitcom Men Behaving Badly, and in 1994 his show Harry Enfield And Chums began broadcasting. Enfield received a British Comedy Award in 1998 as the Top BBC1 Comedy Personality.

Among the early characters he created were the endearing Greek-Briton Stavros and the objectionable product of Thatcherite Britain, plasterer Loadsamoney. In his own shows he added to his repertoire such popular favourites as has-been radio disc jockey Dave Nice, simpleton Tim Nice But Dim, rebellious teenager Kevin, and working-class layabout Wayne Slob. He has also deployed his various characters extensively in television advertising.
