Engelberger, Joseph Frederick

Engelberger, Joseph Frederick (1925– )

US roboticist and manufacturer. He co-produced the first industrial robot for General Motors in 1961. He founded Transitions Research Corporation (1984), which has designed and built service robots for hospitals, laboratories, nursing homes, and other applications.

He was born in New York City and is considered the father of robotics. He co-founded Unimation, Inc.
