Enid

City and administrative headquarters of Garfield County, north-central Oklahoma, 108 km/67 mi north of Oklahoma City; population (2000) 47,000. It is a processing and marketing centre for the surrounding region's poultry, cattle, dairy farms, and oil wells. It is home to Phillips University (1906), and Vance Air Force Base is nearby.

Enid was founded in 1893 when land in the Cherokee Strip region, which was originally put aside for American Indian peoples, was opened to settlement by others.
