Entremont, Philippe (1934– )

French pianist and conductor. He studied with Marguerite Long and at the Paris Conservatory, and has appeared internationally since the early 1950s in a wide repertory (he won the Long-Thibaud Competition in Brussels in 1951). He made his US debut in New York, in 1953, and was musical director of the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra 1981–84. He led the Vienna Chamber Orchestra 1976–80, and the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra 1980–85. He was musical director at the Denver Symphony Orchestra 1987–89, and led the Orchestre Colonne, Paris, from 1988. He was appointed conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in 1993.
