Entwistle, William James (1895-1952)

British philologist and literary historian. He was professor of Spanish at the University of Glasgow 1925-32, and from 1932 until his death was professor of Spanish studies at Oxford.

He was born in China, where his parents were missionaries. His works include The Arthurian Legend in the Literatures of the Spanish Peninsula 1925, The Spanish Language 1936, European Balladry 1939, Cervantes 1940, The Literature of England 1943, and Russian and the Slavonic Languages 1949.
