gastroenteritis

Inflammation of the stomach and intestines, giving rise to abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea. It may be caused by food or other poisoning, allergy, or infection. Dehydration may be severe and it is a particular risk in infants.

To the Editor: Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is a rare condition characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract.
Primary eosinophilic gastroenteritis (PEG) is an uncommon disorder of unknown cause, characterized by abdominal symptoms of pain, vomiting, and diarrhea as the result of eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract.
Allergic eosinophilic gastroenteritis (AEG) may involve food allergy (Min 1991), as may infantile colic.
