Ephron, Nora (1941- )| US writer and film director. Her semi-autobiographical novel Heartburn (1983) was adapted for film in 1986. Her films include Silkwood (1983; co-writer), based on the life of Karen Silkwood (1946-1974), who exposed the hazardous conditions at a plutonium plant, When Harry Met Sally (1989; writer), Sleepless in Seattle (1993; co-writer and director), Michael (1996; co-writer, director, and producer), You've Got Mail (1998; director, producer, and co-writer), Hanging Up (2000; co-writer), and Lucky Numbers (2000; director and producer). |
| Ephron was born in New York and worked for the New York Post 1963-68. Collections of her articles include Wallflower at the Orgy (1970), Crazy Salad: Some Things about Women (1975), and Scribble, Scribble: Notes on the Media (1978). She has also written short stories. She made her directorial debut in 1992 with This is My Life. |
