My own search took me to East Asian religions, and particularly to Buddhism, although it eventually brought me back to Christianity in the form of Episcopalianism.
True to his Gothic strain, Kirk abandoned Episcopalianism for Catholicism in, significantly, the year 1964: just after C.
But there is a hint in it that becoming a vegetarian is not, well, altogether kosher--that it is something like giving up old-world Catholicism for new-age Episcopalianism.
