Epstein-Barr virus

Virus that causes glandular fever. It is also implicated in nasopharyngeal cancer (rare in Europe but a scourge in Asia), Burkitt's lymphoma, and possibly Hodgkin's disease. Epstein-Barr virus is carried by 90% of people, and experimental vaccines are being developed against it.

Epstein-Barr virus infections were first clinically described over a century ago, and the causative agent was described nearly 40 years ago.
then perhaps the virus would be more latent, such as in cytomegalovirus or Epstein-Barr virus infections.
Epstein-Barr virus infections can cause serious complications in solid organ transplant patients, including the development of a malignant lymphoma, which can often be fatal.
