Line Islands

Group of coral islands in the Pacific Ocean; population (1995 est) 5,400. Eight of the islands belong to Kiribati, and three (Palmyra, Jarvis, and Kingman Reef) are uninhabited dependencies of the USA. Coconut plantations provide the means of livelihood in the North Line Islands, but the South Line Islands, where guano was once the main product, are now uninhabited.
