Erard (lived 18th–19th centuries)

Family of French piano and harp makers. Sébastien Erard (1752–1831) introduced mechanical improvements that enhanced key and pedal action.

His firm was established about 1777 and produced its first grand piano in 1796. He opened a shop in London, England, in 1792. He was joined in business by his nephew, Pierre Erard (1796–1855).
