Darwin, Erasmus (1731–1802)

British poet, physician, and naturalist; he was the grandfather of Charles Darwin. He anticipated aspects of evolutionary theory, but tended to the French naturalist J B de Lamarck's interpretation.

He wrote The Botanic Garden (1792), which included a versification of the Linnaean system entitled The Loves of the Plants, and Zoonomia (1794–96).
