Erb, Donald

Erb, Donald (1929–2008)

US composer. His works were influenced by jazz and neoclassical techniques, and employed electronics. His early career was as a trumpeter in dance bands.

He studied at the Cleveland Institute and with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, France. He has taught in Cleveland, Bloomington, and at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, USA.

Works

Orchestral

Symphony of Overtures (1964), The Seventh Trumpet, for orchestra (1969), cello concerto (1975), trumpet concerto (1980); Fantasy for Cellist and Friends (1983); clarinet concerto (1984); concerto for orchestra (1985); concerto for brass and orchestra (1986).

Chamber

The Last Quintet for woodwind (1982).

Vocal

Cummings Cycle for mixed chorus and orchestra (1963), New England's Prospect for choruses and orchestra (1974).

Electronic

The Purple-roofed Ethical Suicide Parlor (1972), Autumnmusic (1973).
