Houses in the city of Erfurt, principal city of the state of Thuringia, Germany. Though the city was damaged by bombs during World War II, many of the historical buildings survived.

City in Germany on the River Gera, capital of the state of Thuringia; population (2005 est) 202,800. It is in a rich horticultural area, and its industries include mechanical and precision engineering, electronics, and telecommunications.

The city has two universities and participates in the Thuringian Bach Festival (March–April) and a Rare Music Festival (October).
