Erice, Victor

    0.02 sec.

Erice, Victor (1940– )

Spanish director and screenwriter. His feature films – El espíritu de la colmena/The Spirit of the Beehive (1973), El sur/The South (1983), and El sol del membrillo/The Quince Tree Sun (1992) – gained international attention for their elliptical style, self-conscious artifice, and thematic interest in the passage of time and human mortality.

His short, Lifeline, formed a segment of Ten Minutes Older: The Trumpet (2002), which includes short films by a number of independent film directors, including Werner Herzog, Spike Lee, and Jim Jarmusch.

A former critic who was educated at the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografía in Madrid, Erice has also directed a number of other shorts and a segment of Los desafíos/The Challenges (1969).
