Erismena

Opera by Pietro Cavalli (libretto by A Aureli), first performed at the Teatro San Apollinare, Venice, Italy, in 1656. Modern editions have been arranged by Lionel Salter (BBC, 1967) and A Curtis (1974). The story tells how Erismena dresses as an Armenian soldier to pursue the seducer Idraspe.

First he is appearing as Da in the Lynne Plowman piece House of the Gods with Music Theatre Wales, which will be making that festival appearance on Wednesday, November 22; secondly he is appearing in Handel's Tolomeo and Cavalli's Erismena for English Touring Opera.
Opera Theatre Company Dublin brought their acclaimed production of the world's first opera performed publicly - Erismena by Cavalli, sung in a contemporary English translation.
Opera Theatre Company has already established an international reputation for its productions of the operas of Handel, and in September, it tackled Cavalli's Erismena (1655).
