Erith

Part of the London borough of Bexley, England, on the River Thames; population (2001) 9,800. It is an industrial centre with wharves, general engineering, and manufacturers of cable, electrical instruments, plastics, toys, radios and TV sets, building products, wood preservative, paint and moulding sand. There are also seed-crushing mills and chemical works. Erith was formerly an important naval station.

Erith oil works, built 1913–17, pioneered the use of reinforced concrete for building.
